India believes this in the US, then Modi government will put Patu in position when the economy falls

Six US lawmakers wrote a letter to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer urging India to reduce its import duty.  It may be recalled that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said last week that talks on trade agreements between India and the United States were underway.  He hoped that a trade agreement between the two countries would be reached soon.

This was what Trump said

US President Donald Trump has previously said that the import duty imposed on Indian goods by India is very intolerable and is not acceptable under any circumstances.  The US abolished India's GSP (Generalized System of Preference) status in June.

India is a developing country

2 American lawmakers wrote to Robert Lighthizer in an October 8 letter that India is a developing country and there is a huge demand for walnuts and cashews in India.  Currently, 5% duty is imposed in India on US nut.  This has made it difficult for American manufacturers to cope with intense competition.

Pressure on Government of India to reduce duty

He said that while India is seeking to regain GSP status, it is imperative that the American government consider the problems facing American merchants and pressurize the Indian government to reduce the high duty on American goods in India.
